#74. Combat (1963)

We're back from vacation and ready to hit the ground running ... or just hit the ground, it's really too hot to be running.

This week we pick up with entry #74 on TV Guide's 1997 list of the Top 100 Episodes of Television with this1963 Robert Altman-directed episode of Combat staring Vic Morrow. For many of you Gen-Z''rs you may remember that Vic Morrow was killed in July 1982 along with actors Myca Dinh Le, age 7, and Renee Shin-Yi Chen, 6, while filming a scene for the movie The Twilight Zone. In this episode of Combat, a badly injured Sgt. Saunders, played by Morrow, is left behind enemy lines and attempts to make his way back to safety. Employing his own ideas reportedly while the executive producers were away led to Altman's firing from the show but created a unique piece of television.
